My highest priority will be bringing good paying jobs to Alexander and Catawba Counties. In the past three years we have seen our unemployment rate soar to over 15% with no relief in sight. Under Democrat leadership North Carolina has lost its competitive edge. In the depths of the worst recession in memory the Democrats’ solution in Raleigh was to raise $2.5 billion in job-killing taxes and fees. Making matters worse, we now have the highest combined tax rates in the Southeast putting us at a competitive disadvantage with our neighboring states costing us jobs. We must improve workforce training, invest in better roads and water resources, and provide much needed tax relief for working families and small businesses.
Our State has suffered under a rising tide of liberal Democrat waste, abuse, and corruption in Raleigh. From a broken mental health system and mismanagement of our highway funds, to a high school dropout rate still over 30%, and the list goes on. State government needs leaders committed to ending business-as-usual in Raleigh. The State is failing to meet its responsibilities to provide the public with efficient effective services. Under the current Democrat leadership all we have seen is a continuing cycle of higher taxes, more spending and deeper debt. Taxpayers are not getting their money’s worth. The only way to bring about the change is to elect a new Republican majority.
Our economic future depends on a well-educated work force. A high quality education is fundamental to increasing our productivity and ensuring our area can compete successfully in the global economy. I will work to cut the dropout rate and improve basic math, reading and writing skills in the early grades, restore discipline to the classroom and support our teachers. Parents need a stronger role in their children’s education.
With over 27 years of experience as a health care provider, I know North Carolina citizens and families need affordable access to the highest quality health care available. I will work for reforms to lower costs and improve access for all. We must focus far more on preventive health care; early detection and treatment to save lives and financial resources. I will fight President Obama’s costly and Unconstitutional federal health care mandates on our citizens.
I believe we must protect our individual rights, prevent government seizure of private property, guard our 2nd Amendment Right to bear arms, and prevent citizens from annexing neighborhoods without the consent of the people.
North Carolina was once known as “The Good Roads State.” Today we are far behind on both the construction and maintenance of our roads and bridges. We are also plagued by mismanagement at the Department of Transportation which has cost taxpayers hundreds of million of dollars in waste, abuse and faulty construction. I support ending the annual raid on the Highway Trust Fund and Highway Fund and creating a new fund to address road and maintenance needs in our rural areas.
North Carolina’s explosive growth in illegal immigrants has greatly changed our State over the past decade. The influx of illegals is straining our schools, our social services, our healthcare system and law enforcement. We all support legal immigration, but we cannot afford to allow benefits designed to help our citizens be abused by those here illegally.
